Bruxism – beat TMJ

Ok, so listen, there is a better way.  I’m warning you that before you watch this video that I have full fledge TMJ.  My husband and my children grit their teeth and grind them until it almost drives me nuts.  However, had someone known that I did this when I was much younger, I might not have ended up needing this horrible surgery for TMJ.

Bruxism is the grinding of the teeth and generally it is at night.  I have been known to grind mine when drying my hair, playing sports or even surfing online.  So, I guess it was inevitable that I was going to have problems.  But, my husband and my kids, I’m trying to help them.

I am doing this review as a result of a campaign by DenTek Oral Care, Inc for a dental mouth guard .  I received the products and was asked to give an honest review of the product.   Good reviews were not part of the incentive and poor reviews are not censored for their opinion of the product.

I just happen to get my product around the same time I was nearing the point of having surgery and hoping that if I wear a mouth guard at night, I can prevent gritting and grinding and causing problems later.  But, I needed a review right now, so I had my husband give it a try.

Now when you watch the video, you will see me and the product but that’s because my husband would only give me words and wouldn’t agree to be on video.  However, he did report that it took him several nights to get accustom to wearing the night guard (I remember that being an issue for me too when I tried wearing one when I was young).  But, he also said after a week or so, he was waking up with the mouth guard still in his mouth instead of having to hunt it down.  (I remember digging through the covers and everything in the beginning to find mine in the middle of the night).  But, he has reported almost 2 weeks later that he actually feels like he relaxes his jaw some while wearing the mouth guard and it’s a good thing to because I”m telling you, this man could never survive the surgery.

Be warned, there is a photo of me at the end after my surgery.  That’s incentive for you grinders out there to get something to help prevent the need for the surgery.  Just be warned, it’s not a pretty sight.
